Features Week Day 4: Raven Lavina

Raven is one of the most talented horror narrators on YouTube. She was the first YouTuber to approach me about using my stories on her channel.

So far she’s done part 1 and 2 of Cursed and The Retreat. They’re all in one video that you can find here.

She also has two of my other stories in the works; Her Name is Luna and The Envelope that I seriously can’t wait to hear!

What inspired you to start your channel?

I have been a fan of horror narration for quite some time. Some days listening to my favorite narrators were one of the few things that helped me make it through my day. No matter how hectic it was I could always out on one of their stories and immediately the day got better. There are many nights I can’t sleep and when I lay down and settle in listening to them narrate these amazing stories helped me relax. I wanted to do this same thing for people if I was able to. I also love getting the honor of narrating stories by writers who deserve far more exposure than they are getting. So the very basic and short answer is, I was inspired to start my channel so I could maybe make even one person’s day better.

What is your favorite part of being on YouTube?

The amazing support I get from my subscribers, writers, and some members of the horror community itself. It amazes me and is so humbling when someone tells me how much they enjoy my content or when a writer loves the way I portrayed their story. It’s also just fun to do. Getting in character, really I’m needing yourself into the story and not just reading it but telling the story. Bringing it to life.

Do you have any funny stories related to videos you’ve made?

One of my early videos I had a chats hurt with a Haitian accent and although I grew up in a Haitian culture my grandmother was the only one who had the accent so me attempting to do this Haitian accent in the video to me was quite hilarious. Spoiler alert, I’m pretty sure I failed lol

What has been your favorite video to make?

That’s a tough one, if I have to choose though the most fun video I’ve done to date is one titled “P is for prey” one of my very early videos, because it is dark and disturbing with just enough sarcastic dry humor it fit right into my zone, and its such a role reversal. I won’t give too much more than that away.

What’s the most challenging part of being a YouTuber in the genre you’ve chosen?

For me, it’s finding the perfect story. Something that I know I can resonate with and really deliver on. Also finding something unique that has not been done so many times by so many of us that the subscribers simply don’t want to hear it again. That being said when a story is good it’s good! So we all recognize this and are excited to get the chance to do it. The beauty of that though is each narrator has their own style, and so it can be actually fun to see how each of us interpreted the story.

What inspiring words do you have for those that are trying to do what you do?

Have fun with it! When you first start out don’t get too caught up in the numbers game. This is a process and we all start at 0. The most important thing, in my opinion, is to simply enjoy what you’re doing. The rest comes over time.

Is there anyone you’d like to promote?

Ghost Mummy! She is an amazing storyteller with so much talent. I truly enjoy her content. She mainly does creepypasta, she is also a writer and so we can all look forward to some very amazing original work on her channel soon
