Lene did the amazing design you see in the thumbnail for this article. She’s extremely talented and has a style I’ve never seen before. She’s also a part of my podcasting family! She and her friend Bunny do a spooky story/movie review podcast called Talk Spooky To Me; click here to listen!
How long have you been creating?
I’ve been drawing since I can remember, but I’ve only been taking commissions since the beginning of 2018. Before then I just worked for myself or designed things for friends.
What inspired you to become an artist?
Basically, I lost my well-paying office job when I was 3 months pregnant and I’ve really struggled to keep myself busy or find work due to my impending baby. I started doing art and posting it on Instagram just to keep myself busy while I was at home all day, and then people started messaging me about whether I would design something for them.. and things just went from there.
What medium(s) do you use for your art?
The majority of my art nowadays is done using my tablet and Photoshop. If I have time then I love to paint.
Which of your pieces is your favorite?
This is difficult because I’m very critical of my work, but I’ll say I really enjoyed drawing ‘Scarf Girl’. Just after I lost my job, I also lost all my confidence and my inspiration; she was the first thing I drew since that made me feel that passion for art again and that I was really proud of. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bd_JXxxhEkR/?taken-by=lenedoesnotpop
What artists inspire you?
I absolutely adore David Bircham. He’s a really talented British illustrator and I have a room just filled with his prints from various games, films, and TV shows and I just love everything he posts.
Do you have any funny stories related to your art?
Sadly no funny anecdotes.
What is the most challenging part of being an artist in the medium you’ve chosen?
Probably the most challenging aspect is how saturated the market is. There are hundreds of thousands of very talented illustrators posting on Instagram every day, so it’s hard work just getting your work noticed.
Is there anyone you’d like to promote?
There’s a fantastic lady called Sew Batty that I’m friendly with on Instagram who specializes in creating adorable little bat toys: https://www.instagram.com/sew_batty/
Where can we find you on social media?
If you can find me on anything I’ll be under the handle Lenedoesnotpop.
Thank you so much to Lene for taking the time to answer my questions. Please consider purchasing some custom art for her. She keeps you in the loop the whole time and is super quick to reply when you have questions. She’s done commissions for several podcasts including Nature vs. Narcissism and The Brohio Podcast!
