How long have you been creating?
Since I can remember! I have been drawing and painting since I was a little kid. I even did an afternoon art class throughout my elementary years. That was probably my favourite part of my childhood!
What inspired you to become an artist?
Well as I said i’ve been drawing for a long time but in terms of creating my own style, it was when I came across Misery, an artist from NZ, who had a really quirky and dark style. She inspired me in that she’s not only a female artist, but she really set herself apart from other artists with her offbeat style. Aside from that, I grew up in a household which really appreciates art a lot so I would always go to art galleries with my mum and dad and really absorb the beauty of different styles and mediums.
What medium(s) do you use for your art?
Watercolour, markers, digital
Which of your pieces is your favorite?
What artists inspire you?
Misery (NZ Artist), Puppyteeth, My friends at the fortnightly Thursday night Drink n Draw because we bounce ideas off each other.
Do you have any funny stories related to your art?
The one that I have attached is the Pizza Eyes one. Basically I had a dream that I had actual pizza slices for eyes. I just had to draw it because it was such a bizarre dream. Other than that, a lot of my drawings are just randomness or pun related which is something I really enjoy. In my undergrad for visual art, I actually did a picture book of puns as my final project. It was a lot of fun!
What is the most challenging part of being an artist in the medium you’ve chosen?
Watercolour is probably the most challenging medium in my opinion. I used to solely use watercolour but have lately been doing a bit more experimentation with using markers, coloured pencils, and digital. I guess the most challenging part has been restricting myself to one medium so i think playing around with different kinds has really helped me out a lot.
Other than that I don’t think it’s challenging per se. I think self confidence has been my only obstacle really. The need to compare yourself to another artist can be pretty easy to do so its definitely something I’ve been trying to do less of and learn to embrace my own style and focus on myself and what i’m trying to achieve.
Is there anyone you’d like to promote?
Well I also happen to have a podcast which is called Creepsville. While it’s on hiatus right now, I’d love to get people checking out my past episodes in the meantime. It’s all about paranormal and urban legends which is something I’m really really into. Definitely check it out if it’s your jam!
Where can we find you on social media?
