Features Week April 2019: Whispered True Stories

One half of Forgotten News Podcast has another pod where she combines spine-tingling ASMR whispering with true crime.

How long have you had your podcast?

The first episode came out, October 12, 2018  (the show has really taken off since then. Nearly 7,000 downloads!)

What inspired you to become a podcast?

I have been doing voiceovers and other audio recording, for a few years, and considering podcasting, but never took the next step. A year and a half ago I  was contacted by Jim, from the Forgotten News Podcast. He had heard my voice and asked me to be a guest narrator on the show. He liked my work and asked me to stay on as co-host of the show. The rest is literally history.  Honestly, Jim is my inspiration. He is supportive, and incredibly encouraging, and I could not do it without him.

What kinds of topics do you talk about on your podcast?

True crime, unsolved mysteries, weird disappearances. spooky things, funny things, and stories that listeners ask me to tell.

What inspired the name of your podcast?

All of my stories are told entirely in Whisper voice,  and they are 100% true.

This format is totally unique – which is probably the reason for the incredibly rapid growth in listeners, in the relatively short period of time that the show has existed.

Which has been your favorite episode to record so far?

I honestly don’t have a favorite episode. They have all been fun to record and I learn something new from each episode. I know that isn’t the most interesting answer, but it’s true.

What is the most challenging part about podcasting in the genre you’ve chosen?

I think every podcaster would say that research is the most challenging and time consuming part of podcasting. Fact checking is also such an integral part, especially in the true crime genre. The internet has such a plethora of information, and a lot of it is not true.

Do you have any funny stories from podcasting?

I live in a house with animals and a roommate, so I frequently run into being interrupted. Either by dogs playing, a cat that wants something, or a roommate that is being loud, or wants to talk, usually as soon as I hit record. These are all humorous to me, because no one wants anything until I decide to work on the podcast.

Do you sell merch or have any other links you’d like to include?

None, right now.  But, probably soon, because I have actually gotten requests from listeners (which is something that never even remotely crossed my mind, when I started the podcast).

Is there anyone you’d like to promote?

The Forgotten News Podcast, obviously!  Besides that, I’m afraid to make a list, because I know I’d forget some of my favorites, and I’d be kicking myself.

Maybe, instead, I will simply give a HUGE shout-out to The Short Stories of Augie Peterson (which is a pretty amazing podcast, by the way).

Where can we find you on social media?

You can find the show almost anywhere that you can listen or download podcasts. Here is a link, for example, to PlayerFM. Also, you can reach me by email: WhisperedTrueStories@gmail.com — Or Twitter: @KitCaren and @WhisperedTrue (either one will reach me).  And, my brand new Patreon page— I absolutely love talking to fans.

Thank you to Kit for taking the time to tell us about her new podcast. Give her a follow and spread the word!
