I found this podcast floating around Twitter one day and in the spirit of finding something new to recommend, I gave it a listen. I had no idea Jennifer and I would become such fast friends. I also was not prepared to find one of the most interesting horror fiction podcasts that exist. with no sound effects, sparse music, and the voice of an angel, Jennifer brings to life this amazing podcast you should totally give a listen.
How long have you had your podcast?
What inspired you to become a podcast?
I love scary stories, I missed writing, and I thought it’d be a fun way to share those stories – I spent so much time listening to podcasts and I thoroughly enjoyed the venue, so here we are!
What kinds of topics do you talk about on your podcast?
I host a serialized spooky audio drama, so we cover paranormal happenings, but also everyday, real-life events and emotions from people’s everyday. And pets, lots of pets in these stories!
What inspired the name of your podcast?
The name reflects the theme of the storyline — there’s no such thing as a coincidence, and everything, even hauntings, happen for a reason!
Which has been your favorite episode to record so far?
My most recent episode, Episode 18 was the most fun to write and record, it’s from a very different perspective from the others.
What is the most challenging part about podcasting in the genre you’ve chosen?
The genre is filled with a ton of super talented folks, and each listener has their niche of what they find scary, so carving out a space for myself has been challenging, but also rewarding. The whole journey was just meant to be a fun and creative process, so having any listeners at all has been amazing, and the community, both other podcasters in the genre, as well as our listeners have been so fun and supportive!
Do you have any funny stories from podcasting?
I have an elderly cat who is all but deaf, and she sleeps most of the day, she somehow seems to know just when I’m recording however. So of course, she howls this horrifying, but not timely, sounds during every recording — not only is this sound I have to remove (usually), it starts me laughing and everything halts to a start. Podcasting already takes longer than you think, add in a randomly-howling sweet little cat, and the process is ridiculously long!
What projects are you currently working on?
In addition to my show, I’m working on a few different collaborations – both with podcasts and writers – one that is happening very soon, and a few others that are still in the works – not to be obnoxiously vague, but I can’t say much more than they’re turning out to be a scary good time!
Do you do in your free time?
Free time is what I used to have before I started podcasting! Ha, I work full-time in an unrelated field, take care of the aforementioned terminally-ill kitty, and the little time that is leftover is spent with my boyfriend John, traveling as much as we can, and enjoying Boston when we can’t.
Where can we find you on social media?
I am Haunted Happenstance on Facebook, where we also have a discussion group, “The Neighbors – Haunted Happenstance”, I’m also on Instagram and Twitter under the same names!
Jennifer is an outstanding human and will even be helping me with the short horror film I’m working on! Give her a follow on social media and check out her amazing podcast if you need some creative horror fiction in your life!
