Features Week June 2019: Cult of Domesticity Podcast

Courtney was one of the first pod friends I ever made when I first started out in this wacky world of podcasting. recently, we’ve collabbed on a few episodes, the first of which you can find here. We chat about cannibalism, body farms, and medical treatments they used to use to treat STDs. It was an absolute blast!

How long have you had your podcast?

1.5 year

What inspired you to become a podcast?

To spend time with my friend

What kinds of topics do you talk about on your podcast?

History and true crime

What inspired the name of your podcast?

A joke between friends then an effort to reclaim the term cult of domesticity

Which has been your favorite episode to record so far?

(all links to podbean site)

Episode 6: “Bathing in Acid”

Episode 20: “Snake in the Bed”

Episode 35: “The War Against the Flightless Birds”

Episode 46: “The Ironclad Deer Theory”

Episode 53: “Burning River”

What is the most challenging part about podcasting in the genre you’ve chosen?

History has a majority that are very serious so my casual academic approach doesn’t suit everyone. True crime is very saturated and the blend of topics doesn’t always win me fans

Do you have any funny stories from podcasting?

The funniest stories are when everything seems to be going wrong. When your audio isn’t coming through and you’re just trying to get programs to work and you just have to laugh your way through. I’ve had Skype calls fail and sound like robots. I just enjoy the laughing through the struggle.

What projects are you currently working on?

I’m working on more episodes. Heather, Nature vs Narcissism, and I are looking into developing a podcast around a cold case but it’s in the early stages.

Do you do in your free time?

The domestic arts such as crafting, baking, and reading.

Do you sell merch or have any other links you’d like to include?

Where can we find you on social media?
